2025 OUTING WRAP UP
The weather was perfect and the course was in great
shape and played well. Couple of tough pin placements
made it interesting but overall, a great day.

After golf, the usual shenanigans took place on the
patio with the awarding of over $1400 in prize money.
Started with the the 'longest drive' and four the
'closest to the pin' prizes, all for $100/ea.
Then we had the 'Blind Draw' to wrap up the day.

RAINOUT vs. LIGHTNING RULE
# RAIN-OUT RULE: IF IT IS RAINY WEATHER BUT DEEMED 'PLAYABLE' AND THE COURSE HAS NOT CLOSED AND/OR THE WEEKLY MATCHES HAVE NOT BEEN CANCELED BY THE COMMISIONER, THEN THE 50% RULE APPLIES WHERE IF HALF THE LEAGUE (26 PLAYERS) PLAYS, THEN ALL MATCHES COUNT REGARDLESS OF WHO PLAYS OR NOT.
# LIGHTNING RULE: IN THE CASE OF LIGHTNING OR SOME OTHER WEATHER CONDITION WHERE PLAY IS SUSPENDED BY THE GOLF COURSE AND GROUPS ARE UNABLE TO FINISH THEIR MATCHES, THEN THE ENTIRE DAY IS CONSIDERED A WASHOUT.
CANNOT PENALIZE TEAMS THAT ARE UNABLE TO FINISH BECUASE OF LIGHTNING OR OTHER WEATHER PHENOMENON.

About Us
The History of The Preferred Liars Wednesday Night Golf League
- The 'Preferred Liars Golf Club' started sometime in the early 1980's as a group of about 8-12 golfers, playing weekly rounds of golf at different courses in the area. Over the next several years, the numbers started to grow and in 1988, they decided to formalize some teams, establish some rules, and with that... The Preferred Liars Golf League began.
- Over the years, the league's format has not changed much, maybe a tweak here and there, but it is still pretty much the same as it was in the beginning with teams of two playing head-to-head matches each week.
- Today, the league has grown to 26 teams with 52 members, playing 9-hole matches weekly at Ridder Farm Golf Course in East Bridgewater, MA. They tee off on Wednesday afternoons, starting sometime in mid-April, and finish up with it's playoff week usually in late September.
- The duffers engage in some friendly competition all season long, competing for weekly and overall prizes, along with some bragging rights and shenanigans. The members also enjoy the league's annual outings, usually one during the middle of the season and one near the end of the season, and the end-of-the season bbq and prize presentation.
- Currently, the league is under the direction of John Toler who has served as the league's "Commish" since the 2000 season.
The Rules...
GREEN'S FEES:
PAY YOUR GREEN'S FEES!!! -- Green's fees must be paid in the Pro Shop prior to teeing off.
Any player found purposely not paying their green's fees will be immediately dropped from the league.
SEASON'S DUES:
The "League Dues" for the season is $75.00.

PAY OR DON'T PLAY!!! -- LEAGUE DUES ($75) ARE EXPECTED TO BE PAID IN FULL BY WEEK 2.
The league should NOT have to be chasing people for money. Pay your dues promptly!!!
Any player with an "overdue balance" after Week 4 will cause their team to forfeit all previous matches, lose points, and potentially have their TEAM dropped from the league.
LEAGUE OUTING, WEEKLY & SEASON PRIZES, & GIFTS:
The league also offers the following:
- League Outings: There will be two League Outings. A 'Mid-Season Outing' sometime in mid-June at a local golf course, and a 'Year-End Outing' sometime in late August near the end of the season. Both outings are optional to all league members. The cost is approximately $125-$150 per golfer, per outing.
- Weekly Blind Draw: The league will have a weekly 'blind draw' which is optional to all league members. Entrants will have their names and that of a partner drawn randomly with the top score(s) awarded prizes. The cost is $10 per entrant per week and must be paid prior to teeing off.
- Half-Season Quota Tally: The league will have two half-season quota tally pools which are optional to all league members. Entrant's weekly quotas will be tallied with the top score(s) awarded prizes at the end of the season. The cost is $25 per entrant per pool (1/2-season) & must be paid before the start.
- Year-End Gift/Apparel: The league will offer some type of 'gift' or 'apparel' mid-way through the season which will be optional for purchase by all league members. The cost is approximately $50 per member.
TEEING OFF & PACE OF PLAY:
BE ON TIME: Be at the golf course and ready to golf at least 10 minutes before your tee time. There are two reasons fir this:
(1) Every once in a while, we get an instances when a group gets out in front of the league and I have to listen to the complaints about it. Well, if we are not there on the tee, of course the pro shop will send out a group that's ready. Be there early and ready to go so that this won't happen.
(2) The league does not want to have long gaps and/or open tees between groups. So for this season, we will be instituting 'ready golf' at the tee. That means if the the tee is open and the scheduled foursome is not ready to go but another foursome is ready, we are sending them and will switch tee times accordingly.
If you know you are running late, call ahead so we know and can make necessary changes and also because some of you will ask... NO, a late player/team will not be an automatic forfeit.
If you really have a problem with waiting a few extra minutes and helping someone out, perhaps you don't belong in our league which brings us to the next thing...
DON'T BE A DICK: We ask that you come to have fun and not complain about stupid shit.
(1) Be on time and ready to play... (2) Keep play moving on the course... (3) Pay your dues in full and on time... and (4) Don't hassle the commissioner unless you want the clipboard.
These are some of the same complaints or pet peeves that come back year after year. Don't know why I'd expect anything different but we can always hope.
KEEP PLAY MOVING: Please pick up your ball if you can’t score points on a hole. This is especially important in the early and later parts of the season when daylight is limited for the later groups.
SCORING:
HAND-OUTS: Please be sure to check the website for the weekly 'Hand-out' for information about the current week's match-ups and/or for any league news, updates, and/or announcements.
SCORECARDS: Please be sure to turn in your scorecards each week in the collection box near the green of the last hole. If you can’t, then please be sure to give your scorecard to someone who can turn it in so that scores, quotas, the website, etc. can be updated.

Teams and players are playing a "quota system" which is calculated weekly, based on a the league's scoring system...
- INDIVIDUAL SCORING: Individual Scoring per hole as follows:
- Bogie = 1 pt - Par = 2 pts - Birdie = 4 pts - Eagle = 8 pts
- TEAM SCORING: To score points towards the overall team standings, a team must reach its quota to score points...
No quota, no points! Team "Match" scoring will be as follows:
- Quota & Win = 3 pts - Quota & Tie = 2 pts - Quota & Loss = 1 pt
- No quota = 0 points (regardless of the match)
Note: If both teams do not reach quota, the match will be considered a "double-loss" and no points will be awarded.

MISSING PARTNER: If a player's partner is absent and he is competing against a two-man team, there will be a 1-stroke penalty added to the player's quota for that round. Example: If Larry is absent and Sam's weekly quota is 10, Sam must add a stroke and shoot an 11 to reach quota.
NOTE: If a player is absent from both teams and the match is one-against-one, then both players can decide to play head-to-head with or without the one stroke penalty. However, this must be agreed upon beforehand and if not, then the adding of the one stroke rule applies to both teams.
It is the responsibility of the missing player and/or his partner to try and get a replacement. The golf course is expecting everyone to pay and play.

FORFEITS, RAINOUTS, & OTHER RULES:
- FORFEIT RULE: In the case of a "forfeit"... The winning team will automatically be awarded 2 points for the match (regardless if they make quota or not). However, the team must still golf and reach its quota for the week to receive it's quota point.
- RAINOUTS: Regarding rainouts... If 50% of the league plays (golfers, not teams), then the week counts (regardless of the weather). If it looks obvious that the league can’t play, a rain-out will not be officially declared until at least one half-hour before the first scheduled tee time so please, hold all calls until then.
- OTHER RULES: Please be respectful and observe all the local rules of golf posted in the Pro Shop and/or the USGA recognized rules of golf.
League Rules are also printed on the back of the schedules (which no one reads).
If there are any questions and/or interpretations of the league rules, league matches, and/or other league matters that need to be addressed, they are to be presented to the League Commissioner promptly (within 24 hours) so that they can be investigated and ruled upon.
Once a decision is rendered, all rulings by the Commissioner are final.
If you don't like it, tough shit!!! The Commish will gladly hand over the clipboard if you want it.
